Join artist Kevin Menck for a long spring weekend of learning and oil painting in plein air in this magical and relaxing village! Kevin practices a "no frills" method of painting in his work. He approaches his canvas with careful consideration for solid fundamentals of painting principles and finishes with captivating scenes that allure viewers and collectors.

The Workshop-$350 Whether you are new to oil painting or a seasoned artist, Kevin will help you overcome the obstacles that are hindering your progress. Each morning will begin with a demonstration by Kevin, followed by in depth Q&A about his process. Artists will start their first paintings and then a break for lunch. Students will spend the afternoon painting with generous amounts of one-on-one time with Kevin. Artist's can expect to improve their ability to develop a solid composition, properly assess values in the field, analyze and adjust temperature, and "maintain the masses". Kevin also shares plenty of tips on drawing, paint mixing, and his famous soft edges! The Accommodations- $120 per night A GREAT value!! Participants are invited to stay in the village where you'll find comfortable, clean and charming private rooms in one of the historic homes of Rugby! This is one of the best features of our workshop!! In the past, artists have enjoyed the camaraderie of being in the expansive Newbury House together. More private rooms are also available.
Price includes accommodations and a meal plan for your convenience! The meal plan includes 3 meals daily of anything on the menu at the Harrow Road Cafe! The menu has lots of great selections, the food is delicious and healthy, PLUS the great staff at the cafe LOVE our artists! You'll be delighted every visit!

BEFORE CALLING, PLEASE NOTE: Historic Rugby is a small, non-profit organization & village. Volunteers will likely answer the phone and may not be familiar with the schedule. Don't panic. :) Ask to leave a message for Kelly and she will call you back. Kelly manages the rooms, has our schedule and is very familiar with our visits!

Historic Rugby, TN Just south of the Big South Fork National Park, you'll find Historic Rugby, Tennessee; a British-founded village whose Utopian dream of a better life in America has never quite died. Nestled among tall pines and oaks, grasses and wildflowers remain many of the original structures, preserved as if the clock just stopped ticking one summer afternoon. Getting There Historic Rugby, TN is approximately 2.5 hours from Nashville, TN., a little over an hour from Knoxville, TN, and 2.5 hours from Chattanooga, TN. From Asheville, NC, Rugby is a 3 hour drive, from Lexington, KY it's just under 3 hours and from Louisville, KY it's 3.5 hours. If you're coming from Cincinnati, OH, it's a 4 hour drive. For Georgia friends, Atlanta is about 4.5 hours in drive time.
