Recently I posted on Facebook "What is the one thing you struggle with most as an artist?" and apparently it hit home for many artist. I had quite a response. Color, value, drawing, etc., etc. But the one thing that came up most it seemed was time management. Getting time to get it in and manage a life. Finding time to manage everything and still get in that quality paint time. I know for me there are times it seems like I just can't find the time I need to spend at the easel due to some other circumstance. That's why when I hear of someone doing a painting marathon of some sort, say 4 paintings a day for a month or even a week I am not sure how they are able to park their lives for that extended amount of time and just paint. Period. It is impressive. I have often thought of trying a paint marathon of my own but never seem to get the nerve to bite it off.
As for the solution to the problem I am not sure I have the answer. I do know that the people who seem to succeed at this have one thing in common..... persistence. They just kept trying to get it in, kept trying to manage time better. Kept trying to paint more. Kept on keeping on. Ultimately I guess that is the secret to all of this.
